Carrie Barton
Architectural Historian / Project Manager

Ms. Barton serves as an architectural historian and project manager for the Research and Preservation Planning Division. Her work at EHT Traceries involves research and documentation of historic properties, federal tax credits, National Register nominations, and Section 106 compliance reports such as Historic Preservation Plans, Master Plans, and Programmatic Agreements. She also provides research and consultation services for design projects in the District of Columbia. Ms. Barton earned a Bachelor’s of Engineering degree in Civil Engineering and a minor in Art History from Vanderbilt University in Tennessee. She has completed her coursework for a Master of Arts in Historic Preservation-Planning at Cornell University and is currently writing her master’s thesis.

Catherine Kahl Miliaras
Preservation Planner/Project Manager

Ms. Miliaras joined the Research and Preservation Planning division of EHT Traceries in January 2007 as a project manager. Working as an architectural historian and urban planner, her work involves archival research, design consultation services and planning studies. Ms. Miliaras provides guidance and assistance to successfully obtain approvals from the D.C. Historic Preservation Review Board by working closely with architects, developers, government staff, and community groups.  Ms. Miliaras earned a Masters of Architectural History and Masters of Urban and Environmental Planning from the University of Virginia and a B.A. in History from Dartmouth College.

Andrea F. Schoenfeld
Historian

Ms. Schoenfeld specializes in researching the history of individual buildings and neighborhoods. Her research provides the basis for evaluating and rehabilitating historic buildings and developing the historic context for landmark and National Register nominations. She received her Master of Arts in American studies/historic preservation from George Washington University and her Bachelor of Arts from Radcliffe College. She is vice president of the Cosmos Club Historic Preservation Foundation, which is dedicated to the preservation of the Townsend Mansion in Washington, DC, and its surrounding historic area.

As an architectural historian and project manager in the firm’s Research and Preservation Division since 2006, Ms. Chiriboga provides research and consultation services related to the preservation, restoration, and rehabilitation of historic buildings.  Her work includes research and evaluation, building and context documentation, preparation of local and National Register nominations, design consultation, Section 106 compliance and determinations of eligibility, as well as preparation of historical reports for compliance purposes and for submission to design review boards. Ms. Chiriboga earned a Masters of Science in Historic Preservation – Building Conservation from the University of Pennsylvania and a B.A. in English Literature from Northwestern University.

SURVEY AND DOCUMENTATION
DIVISION

Elizabeth Breiseth
Architectural Historian/Project Manager

Ms. Breiseth joined EHT Traceries in 2005 and is responsible for assisting in the large-scale survey of historic properties, focusing on the identification, evaluation, and documentation of individual historic buildings and survey districts consisting of several hundred properties. She is responsible for the preparation of local landmark and National Register nominations, inventory forms, historic context reports, and determinations of eligibility, including Section 106 Reviews. Further, as part of a team of four architectural historians, she is responsible for the final products of each survey and nomination project, ranging from an individual property to neighborhoods consisting of over 1,000 resources. Ms. Breiseth earned a Master of Art degree in Historic Preservation at the George Washington University, and a Bachelor of Art in U.S. Diplomatic History and Religious Studies from McGill University in Montreal.

Saleh Van Erem
Architectural Historian/Surveyor

Ms. Van Erem, who joined EHT Traceries in the summer of 2006, serves as an architectural historian and surveyor in the Survey and Documentation Division. Her work includes the survey of historic properties, focusing on the identification, evaluation, and documentation of individual historic buildings and districts. She is responsible for the preparation of local landmark and National Register nominations, inventory forms, historic context reports, and determinations of eligibility, including Section 106 Reviews. Further, as part of a team of four architectural historians, Ms. Van Erem is responsible for the final products of each survey and nomination projects, ranging from an individual property to neighborhoods consisting of over 1,000 resources.  Ms. Van Erem earned a Bachelor’s of Art degree in Art History from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and a Master’s of Science degree in Historic Preservation from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Jeanne Barnes
Architectural Historian/Surveyor

Ms. Barnes, who joined EHT Traceries in January 2007, serves as an architectural historian and surveyor in the Survey and Documentation Division.  She is responsible for the on-site survey historic properties, focusing on the identification, evaluation, and documentation of individual historic buildings and survey districts.  She is responsible for the research and preparation of individual landmark applications, National Register of Historic Places nomination forms, and Determinations of Eligibilities in Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia. Further, as part of a team of four architectural historians, Ms. Barnes is responsible for the final products of each survey and nomination projects, ranging from an individual property to neighborhoods consisting of over 1,000 resources.  Ms. Barnes concentrated her studies in Public History and earned a Master of Arts degree in History from the University of North Carolina Wilmington, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from James Madison University. 

ADMINISTRATION

Afshin Vettovaglia
Director of Finance and Administration

Mr. Vettovaglia is responsible for HR, financial and accounting functions at EHT Traceries. He also provides oversight of the Administrative Manager's duties. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and International Finance from American University.

Piia Helve
Executive Assistant

Ms. Helve, who joined EHT Traceries in 2007, is the executive assistant to the president/CEO.  She also assists senior staff on research efforts and production of projects involving architectural history and historic preservation. Her responsibilities include research, preparation of graphic and written information, maintenance of project files and electronic property database, client relations, and final editing and production of documents. Ms. Helve received a Masters of Science in Historic Preservation from Pratt Institute and a B.A. from Radford University in Art History/Painting.

Glenda Thorpe
Administrative Manager

Ms. Thorpe is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the EHT Traceries office, including managing the phones, mailing lists, supplies, and equipment. She also maintains the firm's extensive resource library and assists the staff with the production of reports and other documents and materials. Ms. Thorpe has resided for many years in the Mount Vernon Square neighborhood, where EHT Traceries is located.
