Historic District Brochures

D.C. Fire Department #4, Truck Company, New York Avenue and M Street, N.W., 1949 - Wymer Collection, Courtesy of Historical Society of Washington, D.C.

The Greater Fourteenth Street, Sixteenth Street, Foggy Bottom, Kalorama Triangle, Sheridan-Kalorama, Greater U Street, Mount Vernon Square/Shaw, and Logan Circle Historic Districts are representative of the District of Columbia's historic neighborhoods that are rich in architectural, commercial, social and transportation history (trolley, bus, and automobile). From the Sixteenth Street Historic District that extends from the White House to the District line, to the Mount Vernon Square/Shaw Historic District that extends from Carnegie Library along New York Avenue, to the historic core of the African-American community in the Greater U Street Historic District, these neighborhoods contribute to the overall historic integrity of the District of Columbia.

For each historic district, EHT Traceries developed well-written brochures of the highest quality, with current and historic photographs and illustrations and information gathered from National Register applications, published sources, and existing historic resource survey information. Each brochure included an informed discussion of the development of the historic neighborhood, including important aspects of its social, economic and architectural history, and features, which contribute to its distinction as a Historic District. EHT Traceries coordinated text, layout, and illustrations with the District of Columbia Preservation Office and produced one-thousand copies of each camera-ready brochure.
