16th Street Historic Resources - Study & Historic Context Report
Washington, D.C.
2700 16th Street, N.W., The Italian Embassy. Working drawing of main elevation details, Warren & Wetmore Architects, 1925.
The Sixteenth Street Historic Resources Study focused attention on the Sixteenth Street corridor, a historic boulevard that runs from the White House to the Maryland/District of Columbia line and includes the Sixteenth Street Historic District.
Located in northwest Washington, D.C., the extensive area (consisting of approximately 300 historic resources) is composed of markedly different sections including residential areas, portions with mansions and embassies, as well as a sector with substantial apartment buildings and commercial buildings.
As consultant to the DC Preservation League, EHT Traceries compiled existing research findings and conducted on-site and archival investigation into the architecture and the history of the area.
Organizing and directing the effort, the firm guided volunteer surveyors, managed a large volunteer computer-entry team, researched the history and development of the area, identified historic resources and several potential historic districts, and prepared the Historic Context of Sixteenth Street.
