Fells Point Recreation Pier

Location: Baltimore, MD

Intent:  Constructed in 1914, the Fells Point Recreation Pier is a historic mixed-use facility which, for over seventy-five years, served as a recreational destination for the residents of Baltimore, and as a commercial maritime facility. EHT Traceries completed a State and Federal Historic Preservation Tax Certification Application to obtain historic tax credits to convert the vacant building to a boutique hotel. After years of neglect, the rehabilitation included the restoration of character defining features including the wood windows of the head house, extensive masonry repairs, and the restoration of the ballroom. Traceries also coordinated consultation with the State Historic Preservation Office and the National Park Service to ensure consistency of the plans and specifications with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation. The hotel opened in 2018 and the project received its HPCA Part 3 certification in 2018.
